Welcome to our website. Ahmedabad Inside.

Ahmadabad is the largest city in state of Gujarat (there are 28 states, Gujarat is the westernmost one)and the sixth largest city in India has a population of over 3,7 million people. The city is also sometimes called Karnavati , an older name and as Amdavad in colloquial Gujarati . Ahmedabad is the administrative center of Ahmedabad District , and was the former capital of Gujarat State from 1960 to 1970 , when Gandhinagar replaced it. The city was founded in the 15th century by Sultan Ahmed Shah on the Sabarmati river , and served as capital of the Sultanate of Gujarat. The historic center of Ahmedabad is presently a thriving business district. Ahmedabad is mainly divided in two parts, the old city, and new city. The old city has developed rather haphazardly, and most of the roads are narrow and crowded during business hours. The new city has well-structured, wide roads. A wide variety of shops and businesses exist in the city. In addition to its role as a commercial center, Ahmedabad is also an important industrial center, with chemical and textile industries. Ahmedabad is often described as the Manchester of the East, because of its once-booming textile industry. Ahmedabad is a very beautiful city.

costly mistakes…

life is all the same here… assignments… quizzes… frisbee… and on…. currently we have started daily practise of volleyball (around 11-12) which is followed by the midnight frisbee…

nowadays, as I’m expecting a letter from my wife (which has already been posted 4 days b4 n still not delivered) I’m a regular visitor at Dorm4, where the Students Activity Office is… All the letters to all the students are delivered at SAO, and they have a very good email intimation system in place for registered or courier posts…. however, for ordinary letters they keep a letter box at dorm 4 (with seperate pigeon boxes for each dorm) and each student have to check it up individually to know whether they have a mail or not. just imagine around 500plus students regularly going to ensure whether they have a letter or not (though ordinary letters are quite rare)…

So i took this opportunity to have a discussion with SAO Officer, and suggested him that a letterbox be placed in each dormitory instead of the current system and the possible action plans for implementing this as well… As I was about to leave he asked me to put up the matter in an official way (email) and i did the same and addressed a cc. to the warden as well. Quite unfortunately, the phrases i used in the email was not in accordance with the IIMA style guide as I made some silly grammatical mistakes in the letter. Both the warden(the prof. is out of country for the moment) and the SAO Officer charged me up, and I had to apologize for the mistakes, which I readily accepted.

As of now, I did personally met the Officer today and he is happy with my explanation, and had relieved me in good spirits. But I have to wait n watch how the warden reacts once he reaches here (as he has already mentioned that I will have to formally apologize once he is back)…..

Anyway, an action over a good cause with a good intention have found myself in a plight, in which our local language proverb says, ‘picking the snake which was laying calmly on the fence and putting it into the pocket’……

Lets expect the good rather than the worst….. Probably this is an opportunity for me to get acquainted with the professor (who also happens to be from my native-place just like the SAO Officer)….

lets take life as it happens… i’ll update, for sure…

“friendship”, ‘the cost of’ or ‘the value of’ ???

scribbling at 1.28am (therefore today is still friday night for me, as usual)…..

its election time @ WIMWI…. and nominations for PGP1 rep, class rep (sections), consult club sec., sports secr. etc… were invited and the deadline finished at 18-july-2008 23:59:59. (remember, the deadlines are very important @ WIMWI and all of those ends with the hh:59:59 tag)…

as being the readers of my blog, i expect u to know me as a sports freak…. and here i was filing my nomination for the sports secretary of WIMWI… i do have good rapport among the fatchas(the voters) and was more or less certain to win(by a big margin - thats my expectation) and be the next sports secretary of WIMWI…. what a proud designation it would have been….. except for the incidents that followed….

curtains open; came in one of my close friends to my room as i was preparing my nomination, to let me know that he had just filed his nomination for sports secr.(ofcourse if at all any of my friends file a nomination, then it would naturally be for the sports club only)…..

it was a christmas gift situation of the wife n husband (the haircut n watch)…. and both of us were ready to withdraw ours… anyway, ’we’ decided that he be in the ’amphitheatre’ as he already had a step ahead of me….

hey, is it the friendship that cost me the adorable post? NO, NEVER…. i’ll put it as the “VALUE OF FRIENDSHIP”….

—————————

meanwhile, today was a dream day for me…. no quizzes… a relatively cool weekend ahead….

and ofcourse, the best part was that i had a chance to play football (5min.s), volleyball (1hour), basketball(1hour), badminton (1hour), n the scheduled midnight frisbee(1hour)…. what more to expect…. cooooooolllllll……

by the way, i apologize my readers that my blog is something like a blind man’s perspective of an elephant…. (the well-known story of 5 blind men who touched the elephant and went ahead to say that the elephant was a broom, or the elephant was a wall, or the elephant was a pillar etc…….)

and here, the readers of this blog might be confused of whether WIMWI is a sports school or a b-school!!!???

yup, i have covered just one side of the story…. probably bcoz i’m not as interested in the other so-called WIMWI traditions… for e.g. tomorrow’s “compulsory” party night over terrace….. compulsory for all, but surely not for me….. again, am i a rebel or a conservative ???

gods or ???…..

“In GODS we trust”…..

thats the caption i read on the back of a t-shirt of one of the thuchas…. Here @ WIMWI, there’s a T-shirt for every other thing…. (people go on printing t-shirts whatever they wanna express, and ofcourse all comes with a branded IIMA logo)….. fine….

u might be a bit confused what it really mean by(if u r not a wimwi’ite)…

trust me, this have nothing to do with the americans’ ‘trust in GOD’….

but rather, here they says…. “the prof.s are GODs here”….. well, let it be, for the time-being i wont pull myself into an argument over that(atleast till i’m off from here)….

but is there an inner meaning, “that we are SLAVES out here”…. probably yes, probably not… again that probability should be adjudicated by the probability prof.s out here….

coming to the point of our discussion; today i met the PGP manager to ask him whether any change in schedule of the beginning of our SLOT2 classes is/could be done so that we could get an extra holiday that may bring some relief to most of us (atleast some like me), who are badly home-sick out here….

well, the exact scenario is our slot1 exams ends on aug.6th and the slot2 classes begins on aug.9th (saturday), remember the next day is sunday-and obviously a holiday…

logically speaking if they can shift the classes on that day to some other day, that would be really gr8….

the exact scenario is, on 9th we have just 2sessions (most of the days we have 3sessions and some days 2) and as already 1session is rescheduled to a free slot to come, there is only 1session remains on that day…. (but to make matters worse they had ‘deliberately’ scheduled one of the WAC submissions on the same day)…

I humbly requested the PGP manager, whether it is possible to shift that other class as well to any of the free slots available (as we have 2more free slots in the next 5weeks)…

however, he was adamant in not just rejecting the request, but he said, “students have no right to advice on academic schedule”, i said, ” sir, this is not an advice, rather a himble request…..” especially for people like me (married & having a 4month old baby), who are eagerly browsing for that small window that would be really wonderful…. - the rendezveous we dream day in and day out - …..

i received an ideal boomerang this time, “the PGP chair has decided this time to minimize the holidays in between the slots” (we have a six slot system here for the first year and remember we have our one & only holiday for this academic year at dec-end, for a “LONG SEVEN” DAYS), further he clarified that, “if you got only one session on that day, i’ll try to make it two by rescheduling the other class too….. ”

“THANK YOU, SIR”…….

The weekend i planned and lost….

Hey….. today is friday, and just back from classes (n exams ofcourse)…..

well, i had planned to spend this weekend with my family at hyderabad (my mom, sister, brother-in-law, kids… and currently my younger brothers have already joined them, and my elder sister to arrive at hyd tomorrow with her 3kids) the day when the SLOT-1 schedule (we have 6slots in 1st year) had reached my hands coz this was one of the rare weekends with both saturday n sunday was holidays…….

but, all had vanished to thin air :(, as we were given multiple assignments, presentations in PS & MC apart from the already scheduled ME Quiz (though this was known b4, the others were tailormade for this weekend).. Even then, i was scheduled to fly today evening, but for a quite unexpected session with placecomm(placement committee) tomorrow….

Well Dreams stay as dreams always…

And now i dream to join my family on aug6-8 just when our first slot ends, let’s to wait n watch….

bcoz the prof’s here, though they teach excellent micro-macro OB’s, HR, Personnal relations bla bla bla… , its quite rare they implement the same to their immediate respondents….

hmm….. hopeful to play some FRISBEE today as well… chances are rare though, due to heavy showers we had in the morning….. but then indoor(TT,pool) options are always open… hold on to whatever u can grab…..

have a gr8 weekend :(…….

Old Habits Die Hard……

the day started at 8.20 or so… had to mess up with the so-called primary things b4 running to the mess(canteeen)…..

though i’m not used to takeup breakfast (had some just 4-5days prior to this during the last 40days) i had to, bcoz i was on medication for fever…

anyway, had some bread, omlette, bananas b4 running to class, just to find that i’m late by a minuter or two for the 8.45 class… thanks to prof., i was let in (though the chances are rare) (the T.A-teaching assistant-might be on hawk-eye to reduce some c.p marks for attendance or late practise)…

i had an interval of a session (from 10.20-11.35) as we were not having that particular subject… I took advantage of the same to have a SIESTA in my friend’s room (which is nearby to the class) so as to join back at 11.55…

though he called me at 11.40, i thought i’ll have just another 5minutes more b4 running again……. that was it…… and finally came the knock of Deepak(the same friend) just 10minutes to 2pm… with a “GLAD” news of QUIZ at 2.30pm….. (all’s well that ends well, and here i didnt missed the quiz :) )

so, today is the first day @ WIMWI for me to “be late to class” and “be not to class”…….. …..OLD HABITS DIE HARD……

the beginning was good though… but sure not to end here… let’s wait n watch

playing frisbee is the life here…

scribbling at 1.10am (though pc show the date as 10july, its still 9th for most of us): group discussions over for tomorrow’s session…..

started at 11pm, we met at CT (canteen) today, had some refreshments.. one guy brought the laptop to do the excel spreadsheets for the morrow…… finished it off at 12.30…

on way back to dorm…. (short form of dormitory…. each dorm consists of 2-3floors, with each floor having 10single rooms… and each floor shares 4toilets, 2bathrooms, 1washing machine, and 24/7drinking cold water, tv, etc… )……… i met some thuchas(synonym for 2nd years) at the louis khan plaza

well, louis khan plaza is the most attractive location of iim-a, rather wimwi… a small green limousine just enough for a nine’s football match…..

thuchas play frisbee at 12.00 and its already late by half an hour… however, i reached at the correct time, and someone brought the frisbee(i had introduced this earlier, check out my earlier blogs)….

START>…. though being a fatcha(synonym for first year), some of us too joined, later to see ourselves out of the game in half an hour when other thuchas joined…. (hmm… lets wait for our turn… not so far…)

half an hour is enough for full cycle, though u get addicted and play for 2hours or more… anyway, for me its half an hour for the day, and here i’m back at my dorm, precisely dorm18, room02……

its just 22minutes past 1, lot of work to do for morrow (or today to be precise)…… hopefully i’ll sleep a bit early tonight (around 3) as we have just 2sessions tomorow(today) (normally we have 3), thats my expectation….. let’s see what happens next….

well, FRISBEE moves the life going here…

otherwise, its hard to survive here (not for all, but for me)….

i forget to add…. today(rather yesterday) just after class me and THAHIR(PGP1 mate from kerala) went for a 4hours shopping… except for what we sought(badminton rackets), we had a good purchase (rather thahir had).. me too got a stint… preparing for the placecom photoshoot in the weekend with my new REDTAPE shoes :)

so, more to come, not just FRISBEE… he he…

Back to Dorm after “FRISBEE”

Well, a saturday night!!!!

the only off day (next day - sunday)… and we (some of us) celebrated it by playing FRISBEE.. (the official game of IIMA)….

FYI, frisbee is a flying saucer game, with 7-8people on each sides targetting the goals….

the play started today at 11.30pm and was stopped prematurely at 2.15am… (normally it may go upto anywhere around 3-3.30)

well, let’s pray for next saturday to come faster….

till then… :(
